International release January 9th 2026

Directed by Johannes Roberts, Producers Walter Hamada, John Hodges and Vicki Dee Rock for Paramount Pictures.

While much of the plot is being kept under wraps the storyline follows “a group of friends” whose tropical vacation turns horrific, chaotic and deadly after they have some sort of encounter with a chimpanzee. Primate is far from director Johannes Roberts’ first foray into survival horror filmmaking. The director previously helmed the 2017 feature, 47 Meters Down, which saw Claire Holt and Mandy Moore as two sisters on a dream vacation to Mexico who come face-to-face with hungry sharks after a cage diving experience goes horribly wrong. Additionally, the helmer has also backed other genre projects, like the 2016 supernatural horror flick, The Other Side of the Door. He’s even left his stamp on two beloved pieces of horror IP thanks to his vision behind 2018’s The Strangers: Prey at Night and 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Essentially, if it’s horror, Roberts is on board and ready to take the audience on a wild journey of terror.

“Lucy and company find themselves confined to their house with the chimpanzee intent on killing them. But this isn’t just any house. Primate’s production designer Simon Bowles deserves immense plaudits for employing a novel, interactive contained setting for our protagonists.” Review by George & Josh Bate, THE HOLOFILES

“A beautiful set. Simon Bowles, the production designer, did amazing, amazing work” Johannes Roberts, BLOODY DISGUSTING
